The Gisborne and Poverty Bay Clubs have combined in holding a monster carnival and given line weather there should lie a record attendance at the band rotunda, Bead’s Quay, when the season mil he officially declared Open by the Mayor, Mr I). AA . Coleman. at 2.T0 p.m. to-day.

Tile City Band will he in attendance. ioo-crcams and other refreshments will be available, and a splendid programme of events has been drawn up for the occasion. A speedboat race, with all its attendant thrills, should prove of especial interest to the public, and the comedy element will be provided by n canoe race, wherein the competitors will be garbed m fancy costumes kindiv lent for the occasion by Messrs Cnrdston and Baxter. The Olympic Swimming Club will stage their first river race of the season, this being for the DeCosta Cup over a course from the l’eel Street Bridge to‘the Jvaiti Esplanade. All classes of rowers are catered for. both present members and the veterans. Among the events for the latter is a fours. Bower Board v. Fire Brigade, which should, like all the other races, provide the keenest of contests, as both crews have been training assiduously and were noticed on the river last evening, putting on the finishing touches.

A novel feature of the afternoon will fie the filming, bv Mr Tindall Hayward, o; portions of the proceedings, so it is hoped that good crowds will attend in order to give the requisite atmosphere to a picture which will ultimately be screened all over the country.
