LAST SEASON’S FIGURES
The sheep-and lambs slaughtered for export at the three freezing works ip PoVbrty Bay during the 1927-28 season, was slightly less than t.ho output in 1926-27. The Kaiti works established a record that was only beaten by four other, works in the North Island. : Figures for the throe district factories during last season wore •as under. Sheep Lambs Total y Tokomaru ... 51,528 34.247 85,775 Taruheru ... 85,454 77,217 162,671 Kaiti 122,650 148,261 270,911 The totals for the district were: Sheep 259,632, and lambs 259,725, the aggregate of the killings durng tho .1927-28" season being 519,357. During tho previous season the aggregate was 526,469 head of sheep and lambs. There was a big increase in the number of cattle killed in Poverty Bay and at Tokom'am Bay during last season, tho total being 18.099 head, as against 7441 for 1926-27. The last-mentioned Season was a poor one, owing to the fact that a drought during 1926 had occasioned severe losses in the herds, which consequently were depleted considerably, this depletion being reflected in the following season’s killings of beef. The 1927-28 season showed a strong recovery, reflected in a total killings of more than double the quantity of beef. •
