GISBORNE BRA XT’lf AXXFAI MEETING

Owing to the absence from town or* sickness of a number of active snppei tors, the annual meeting <>t the (Yshorne branch of the Navy League yesterday attracted onlv a rattier small attendance. Mr .1. McLeod was voted to the chair. The report and financial statement, as already published, were read and adopted, the. chairman commenting that it was very satisfactory to see that the branch wn = financially stronger at the end of the. year under review than hi the previous one. Officers were elected a s J'ellc.a s: President., Hon. K. S. Williams: vicepresidents, Lady Carroll, Canon Pa eke and J. LL Kirk: chairman. Mr J. B. Kells ; lion, secretary and treasurer. Mr F. Rowley; committee, Mi’s Clin roll. Mis* Pees, Pev. das Aitkon. Messrs J. A. Curran. J. -McLeod. F. Foote, A. Stonehnm and P. V. Rambrill: bon. auditor, ATr C. H. Bull. Mr R. F. Gatnhrill referred in complimentary terms to the excellent work of the honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr F. \T. Powley, who bad put in a great deal of time in the interests of the League and was undoubtedly the most enthusiastic supporter that the local branch had. He moved that a hearty vote of thanks bo accorded to Mr Powley‘and be recorded in the minutes. The chairman sooko in similar terms and the motion was then carried unanimously and hv acclamation. Further votes of thanks wore accorded to the honorary auditor* Air C, H. Bull, to M iss Beader, for her assistance in tvping letters etc., and to Messrs J'. Kinder and F. Wilkes for acting as judges. Votes of sympathy were then passed to Mr .T. B. Kirk, in the loss of his mother, and to Mi's Rees, in her illness.
