MEETING OF COUNCIL. A considerable amount of correspondence awaited the consideration of tha Wainpu County Council at its annual meeting on Tuesday. Many of the letters dealt with minor matters, of interest only to the writers and the officers of the council, hut there were a number of general interest to cguiitv ratepayers. [n reference to a claim made upon him for rates for native land, Mr R. T. Kobe re wrote explaining that he was not the occupier of the land, and that application for the rates should lie made to persons whom he named.

Replying to a suggestion that the telephone of the health inspector should he connected with the line running to the police station, the .Tn.stico Department intimated, that it. would not he possible to grant tile concession. Main Highways Board is to visit Ruatoria on November 30, and that deputations would he received in respect of county needs, the council resolved to entertain the hoard at luncheon.

An application for compensation from Messrs Colbert and Pickering, regarding goods destroyed when their camp caught fire recently was referred to the engineer for a report. The clerk was asked to request a report from the dog tax collector ns to a complaint made by a Tuparoa ratepayer. The application of a Maori dairy farmer for permission to lay a pipeline across the main road near Wai-o-matatini was referred to the engineer. Rejxirting upon the .work in hand and in prospect, the engineer stated that tenders had been called for the Mangnhauini bridge and' also for the Mangaporo bridge. Specifications for the Waipiro-Kopuaroa, Waiau, Rangitukia, and Tupawaeroa metalling jobs have been drawn up and are to be the subject of tenders immediately after their approval by the Highways ' Council. The engineer was authorised to make inquiries as to the cost of a motor tractor for use on county roads. Four applications were received for the post of dog tax collector to the county, and Mr P. A. Carroll was appointed. The council agreed to carry out a certain amount of work on the TVaipiro Bay recreation ground, on the understanding that the results be maintained by the grounds committee.
