STATE ENTERPRISE.

THAT SECRET LOCAL AIEETING! AIR- COLEMAN RETURNS TO THE ATTACK. The “secret'-' meeting of businessmen which discussed the encroach.rnent- of State institutions on private enterprise last week in Gisborne was further mentioned by Air D. W. Coleman, Labor candidate for the Gisborne seat at- the Opera House last night. AH Coleman remarked that the meeting; was not advertised, and no report-had been handed to the Press, so he assumed nothing would have been heard of it had he not- found out. The meeting had been convened by the Accountants’ -Society, but it should really have been called unjAy.C.jhL ajispiges. of, the .Law .Practitioners' Society, as the great proportion of the gathering were solicitors and the object was to attack the Public Trust. However, the legal profession would not dare to assail tlie institution on their own, and thus had called in insurance agents, land agents, dentists, doctors? and members of a number of other professions. He had- been accused by Air Lysnar of stating that the dentists were opposed to the dental clinics, but the speaker denied making any such statement. He knew the dentists favored the clinics and had done all in their power to assist these institutions. However. the gentlemen who were attacking the Public Trust were trying to persuade the dentists that the dental clinics were encroaching on their business. He noticed Air Lysnar claimed to have attended that meeting, but he was informed that he was not there. A number of cut and dried resolutions were passed for submission to the Government, and. although it was suggested that representations niiglit be made to the other two canit was stated it was no use submitting the proposals to the labor candidate. He took this as ~ compliment. Tho meeting thought y the other two candidates would be j* prepared to sell themselves, crucify ' the interests of the people, and stultify the operations of the Public Trust and the .Post' Office Savings Bank. That meeting would not- ask him to attempt to interfere with these State institutions because he would not do so.
