HOOVER’S MOVE.
IMPORTANT DIPLOMATIC TOUR
PROPOSED GOODWILL VISIT TO SOUTH AMERICA. CAMPAIGN FOR~TRADE EXr - ‘ • ; -PANSION. . United Preiß Asen. by El. Tel. Copyrlebt (Australian Praia Assn.i (Received Nov. 11, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Nov. 10. Ifie proposed good-will visit by Mr Hoover on an American battleship to South America before his. inauguration as President, is considered here one of the most important diplomatic moves ever undertaken bv an American President-elect. There are few precedents for such an understanding, but it is emphasised that America is growing aware of the necessity for bettering her relationships • with Latin America. The United States’ embargoes against Argentine meats, fruits and corn have engendered considerable ill-feel-ing in that Republic, and unquestionably ; endangered the American market for manufactured goods. The United States has never held a favorable position in the South American market, and Mr Hoover’s visit is considered preliminary to an expansive movement by .American manufacturers to compete with British and German producers for South American trade.
