Ramulus was always prominent, and, won the Batman Stakes easily. He was ridden and is trained by the New Zealanders McCarten and G. Price respectively. Meadow King finished best in the Flemington, and won narrowly. He cost 150 guineas as a yearling, and this was his first success. He was previously third in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes.

Vaals had a big lead at six furlongs in the Fisher Plate but Gothic who had been third in the earlier stages led into the straight and won brilliantly. He has scored three wins in as many starts at the meeting, and has won £17,700 in stakes. He is trained by the former New Zealander, Lou Robertson. Though last in the opening stages, Bacchus finished fast in the V.R.CJ. Handicap, and won brilliantly. He is a stablemate of Statesman,. and gave the rider McCarten his second win for the afternoon. Oral Treaty had command over the last twelve furlongs of the Steeples, and though tired just lasted out Late Night. He was second last year. Hingston rode the winner. Noscitur, after occupying fourth place at the commencement of the Final Handicap, led at the distance and beat the fast finishing reputed King. Toohey rode the winner. Tho last half mile was covered in 49Jsec. Sectional times for, the Melbourne Stakes were: First four furlongs, 511 sec., next four 51sec., last four 47-)see., concluding six 1.3., the tnile 1.38*. In the V.R.O. Handicap, the fractional times were: First six furlongs 1.17*, next four 49}, succeeding four 50*, last six 1.14 f, mile 1.40. McCarten was reprimanded for crossing the field too sharply with Ramulus at the start of the Batman Stakes. Winalot,- Amounis, Textile, Burnably, Dion and Yodelist are among the final acceptors for Monday’s Williamstown Cup.
