FIRST TRIAL FOURS SEMIFINALS.
The semi-finals of the First Trial fr’ours of the Gisborne Rowing Club took place on Saturday evening. For .the first race G. J. Jeune (str.), Cairns, Knox and O’Dwver and P. Foster (str.). Sloan. A., Shaw and Hay went to the post to try conclusions. Foster’s crew proved, too good for Jeune’s. and from a good start gradually forged ahead and won comfortably by a length. The other race, between H. Hankey (str.). Mills, Somerville and Rooke and W. Kennedy (str.), H. Hunter, DcOosta and Gray, proved the best race of the Trials. Both crews left the post, together and at the footbridge Kennedy had a slight lead on Hankey which lie increased to half a ‘length, but at Der'bv Street both crews were even' and raced stroke for stroke down the straight and a hard-fought race was won by Hankey by a canvas.■ The final will be rowed this evening between Hankey and Foster, 1 and crews for the second trial fours will be picked. '
