SPECIAL ADVERTISEMENTS. PROHIBITION’S BIBLICAL PERVERSIONS EXPOSED (BY THOMAS S. KYNE.) I-- have.. not. been ..hearing from my Prohibition friends la,tely, that is, not publicly. But from one who prefers with good reason to remain in anonymity, I have received a leaflet which is a classic of deliberate Biblical misrepresentation and perversion. I known, of course, that anonymous missives of this description should be ignored and in , the ordinary course of events I would not have bothered further with it than' to have sent it cpickly to the fate which it deserves. Mb was published “By arrangement” 'in the Gisborne Times on . the 13th Sept., 1928, and later by its author as a leaflet and it shall be my pleasure to show the people who hay© read it,-, that the Prohibitionists in their desire to gain their fanatical ends, do not hesitate to pervert and distort the Word of God; the Holy Bible itself. Not only do they do such—-but they are so devoid of the quality of religious morality, that they place perversions before pes>is sif the TRUTH. of the lei idei t. Jiich pieuddj the truth is a ‘Phelem” in the shelter has liown f< 'of n.nonvmi The leafpfc says: “In Leviticus X, 9. the priegts are forbidden to drink wine or strong drink.” Such . a rendering of the actual quotation would naturally lead us to believe that the priests under .the old law WERE FORBIDDEN t>v Lev. X—9 TO PARTAKE AT ANY TIME OF WINE OR STRONG DRINK, and this is the impression .the leaflet IS INTENDED TO CONVEY.. This is a deliberate perversion which MUST HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO THE WRITER., for the priests were only forbidden to drink wine and strong drink WHEN THEY WENT INTO THE TABERNACLE OF THE CONGREGATION, . as can lie seen by anyone who takes the trouble to read the quotation referred to. This direction regarding wine is also given in .Ezekiel XLIV—-21, which says. tf Neither shall any priest drink wine WHEN THEY ENTER INTO THE INNER. COURT.” .

It is impossible for anyone of ordinary mentality to understand that either of these Scriptural texts carried a general or total prohibition ofifthe use of wine and liquor to the priests—and Leviticus X —9 has been jSeliberatelv curtailed by the Prohibitionists IN ORDER THAT ITS TRUE SENSE SHOULD BE SO PERVERTED THAT THE ENDS OF THE PROHIBITION PAHTY' might be served. “Plielem’s” leaflet says: “We see where Satan has perverted the truth.” WE CERTAINLY DO !
