Agin the Government!
RUT not sparing in its PRAISE. MR COATES’S CHAIRMAN AT WOODY ILLE. (Special To The Times). WOODVILLE, Nov. 9 “This shows how false and baseless is the suggestion that the Government favors its political supporters,” said the Prime Minister atWoodville this afternoon, in acknowledging- a welcome extended him bv the Mayor (Mr H. P. Horne). Air Horne, who made no secret oi the fact that he was a- supporter or Mr E. A. Ransom, the United candidate of Paliiafua, said he was in a difficult position in acting _as chairman for the leader of *x party holding opposite -political views to those which he held. At the same tune he felt he would be neglecting his duty if he did not explain to the Prime Minister how much lie and the people of Woodville were indebted to the Government for having erected a. number of railway houses, which had done a great deal to relieve the housing shortage m that borough. Woodville also appreciated the agtion the. Government had taken *in relieving it of the cost and maintenance of the main highway through the Manawatu Gorge, lhe borough had been carrying a heavy burden for several years, and .the Government’s action had materially lightened the load. . , The Prime Minister told his audience, which gave him an enthusiastic hearing, that he greatly appreciated Mr Horne’s remarks and suggested that,. in his heart of hearts Mr Horne reallv felt that he should be on the, side of the Government.
