RAID ON BETTORS.
GAMING HOUSE KEEPER FINED £IOO. iPrefi* A«floola.t,lon.J AUCKLAND', Nov. 8. Shortly before one o’clock yesterday afternoon detectives made , a raid on an office* in His Majesty's Arcade. As a result, Clarence Russell Raymond Lewis and John Prenter were later charged before Mr. Hunt-, S.M., at the Police Court- with using the premises as a common gaming housie, and David Symons, Arthur Williwn Everiss and Henry Brodman were charged with being unlawfully on the premises. In each case defendants pleaded guilty. - Chief Detective Hammond said that Russell was the keeper of the gaming house, while Lewis and Prenter were his assistants, or clerks. Neither of the latter had tA?en before the court before,: but about a. year ago Russell, had been fined £SO for.street betting. Russell bad been carrying on in a fairly extensive way. about £IOO being seized by the " detectives, as well- as a large quantity off betting material. Mr. Hunt fined Russ© 1 ! £IOO, and lewis and Prenter each £lO. Symons Everiss and Brodman were eacji fined £3.
