PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE
MR, COLEMAN’S VERSION OF RECENT PRIVATE MEETING.
Referring to the work of the Public Trust Office at Te Hapara last evening, Mr. D. W. Coleman, Labor candidate for the Gisl-orne seat, stated that, at 5 p.m.‘ on Monday last, a meeting was held under the auspices, so it was said, of the Accountants’ Society. Not very many accountants attended, but there was a large gathering of solicitors, land agents, doctors, a few dentists and mSTnbers of other professions. A number, of cut and dried resolutions were carried, all condemning the Public Trust Office and other State enterprise's for their encroachment on private business. Williams and other local candidates, seeking their support te the protests, “but-,” .added Mr. Coleman, “it was said at the meeting that it was no use approaching the Labor candidate. I take that as a great honor, and one which I am very proud cf. that I should not he considered ready to crucify the interests of the public on behalf of those land agents., solicitors, doctors, etc., who are initiating this movement to limit the work of the Public Trust.” (Applause.).
