Princess Mary inspected H.M.A.S. Canberra at Portsmouth. Thousands witnessed her hurried progress to the dockyards,. The -cooking .devices interested' the princess keenly. She looked over simmering stews and iuughmgly remarked: “The old song is true, ‘A. sailor’lde’s the life for me.’ She was; intrigued by the electromegaphones whereby a command issued from one place is audible everywhere. She commented eulogistically on the recreation facilities, and from the quarterdeck watched 7QO officers qnd men march past to the tune of ‘•Hearts of Oak”. She remarked that 'it was a splendid looking crew, and then lunched with the, ■ captain and senior officers, afterwards signing the visitors’ book. . Princess Mary presented a-silvei rose howl inscrilied ‘-‘Good luck to the Canberra and all who sail -Ixer.’ As the princess descended the gangway, the crew gave rousing cheers. The princess smilingly waved her hand. .Afterwards she inspected the Victory alongside. ~
