SULTRY IN SYDNEY.

CITY ENSHROUDED IN SMOKE

United Press Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright tAustralian Preoa As3n.) (Received Nov. 7, 11 u.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 7. The temperature to-day for several hours was at ninety degrees, and the maximum was ninety-six at two o’clock. A boisterous hot wind from the north-west added to the discomforts and the city was shrouded in a smoke pall from bush and scrub fires in the environs. The fire brigades had busy times and many amateur fire-fighters were engaged beating back the flames that raced through the dry scrub driven by a gale that occasionally topped fifty miles per hour. Bush fires are reported in many country districts. A curious accident occurred at Waterfall Sanatorium, where a passenger was taking petrol from a bowser when a flying spark ignited the spirit. The bus was destroyed and the driver considerably burnt.
