KNIFE AND PISTOL DUEL
SHERIFF SLAYS JUDGE
United Press Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright
(Australian Press Assn.) (Received Nov. 5, 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 4, A message from Jesup (Georgia), states that Judge R. Thomas, of the 'City Court, was shot dead by Deputy Sheriff Madray, following a knife and pistol duel in the street after the judge had called the sheriff “an A 1 Smith man.” Both men were Hoover supporters and Madray toox exception to Thomas’ aspersions on his loyalty as a fit manager for a campaign on behalf of Mr Hoover. Madray was slashed, although the wounds were not serious. The incident indicates how badly split the Democratic party is in the Southern States where, hitherto; Republican sentiment has never been known to exist.
