The balance of the programme of the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting, postponed from Saturday, was concluded to-day, when, the course was thrown open free to the public.. The course was in excellent condition, and there was a. large attendance without any untoward happenings. The totalisator receipts for Saturday and to-day totalled £53,770 compared with £69,821 for the first day of last year’s spring meeting—a decrease of £16,05.1 10s.

MEETINGS IN THE CITIES. The practice among country racing clubs of holding tlieiir meetings on city racecourses caused a protest hv the. Hon. L. M. Isitt in the Legislative Council when the Public Reserves, Domains and National Parks Bill was under discussion. Mr. Isitt said that he took exception to the clause in the Bill whereby by-laws could be made permitting any reserve to be granted to a racing club for racing purposes. “It is not right,” Mr. Isitt ndd«d. “that any hoard of trustees should be able to allow a country chib to. hold its meetings in a city centre. I am not speaking as one of those -called.: a ‘wowser,’ but tlm bulk of the racing Them are against the practice, and commercial men are bitterlv opposed to it. A great many eountov clubs are coming to- the city and I want to protest against the practice.”
