SEASON OPENS AT TE KARAKA. CRICKETERS BEAT BOWLERS. i SOME INTERESTING PLAY ( Te Karaka Cricket Club opened ,its j season over the week-end with a soc- | ml match, Cricket Club v. Bowling l Club. Both sides showed good form, ! with some especially good work on the part of the cricket club, and a | highly enjoyable, encounter ..resulted.• Bowling honors .of the game were well divided among the different trundlers. Some of the players who were in the veteran stage were the source of much amusement to the crowd, who proved themselves, worthy rivals of the Australians in their humorous “barracking.” For the cricketers, McKay proved the mainstay of the batting with 4r (retired), which included live fours. Bradley hit freely for. 22, including a sixer, Dunshea hit three fours m his., 17 and Crimmin also ■ reached double figures; On . the, bowlers side, McGrannachan, whose hitting powers have, .tested the bowlers or town teams on many occasions, played a solo hand, and was undefeated with 49 to his credit out of the total of 82. In his free display, McGrannachan hit. four fours and two sixers, smacking 6,4, 6 off successive balls from McKay.
