Answering, a telephone call terday morning cost Mr r- J. -ttow ley a loss by fire estimated at approximately £l5O. Mr Row ey «-=■ engaged in lighting the heater of a brooder in his fowl house, on hu property at 210 Ormond he received a phone call. During hiabsence, the heater worked too effectively and set alight to the woodwork of the building which w;as covered with rubberoid. and was over 100 feet in length, and in a moment or two, the woodwork was a ra returned and attempted* to extinguish the flames, while Mr H. K. Swan sounded the alarm, this being shortly before 11 a,m. The Brigade were quickly on tffe spot and remarkably smart work .enabled them to quell the flames within a very short space of time. Other buildings close by were in serious danger of ignitir.g, but all Ranger of the fire spreading - was .removed by the prompt and efficient efforts of the Brigade who also received useful assistance from members of the fire police corps and' neighbours. The building and contents were not covered by insurance and Mr Rowley estimates his loss, which includes 150 valuable, chicks, _SO prize fowls, fruit trees, grape vines tools, etc., at approximately £l5O.
