ANNUAL MEETING

The activities of the past year and preparations for the coming season were discussed at the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay 8010 Club uii Saturday. There was an attendance of about 15, over whom Mr Thornley Sherratt presided. The statement of accounts for the year ended August 31 showed that the receipts totalled £321 9s 2d. The credit balance from last year was £63 3s 5, subscriptions brought in £7B 15s, the entrance fees and gate receipts from the tournaments aggregated £56 9s 6d. The icee pts of the ball were £l2l Os 3d, sale oi sticks £1 Is, and grazing £l. The payments totalled £174 19s, comprising ball expenses £7O Os- 3d, tournament expenses £36 17s _ 4d, polo balls, canes and heads £ls 4s, maintenance of grounds £33 lOs 6d, rates £9 13s lOd, sundry expenses £lO 13s Id, waving o —-ht balance at the end of the sooc-, n of £145 10s 2d.

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the financial statement, on id the Club was in a sound financial position, having started the season with a credit balance of £bo, and ended up with a balance oi £145. The main source of revenue was on the ball, which showed a profit of £SO, so that it seemed a similar function would have to Ue held this year. The motion was seconded by ,Mr E. T. Brosnahan, who pointed out that this year the Club showed a profit of about £9O, which was very sat sfactory in view of the fact that there had been a loss of £ls in the previous year. He mentioned that there was a number of balls, sticks and heads on hand. The motion was carried unanimously.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected' as follow:—President, Mr Richard Sherratt; vice-president, Messrs G. M. Reynolds and F. E. Gaddum and Chas, Matthews; captain, Mr S. Kirkpatrick; vice-cap-tain, Mr J. Jobson; committee, Messrs C. Tietjen, P. H. Sherratt, P. F. Barker, M. L. Holden, ISherratt, R- K. Murphy, J. Jobson, A. Mclldowie; treasurer, Mr S. Nathan; secretary, Mr E. T. Brosnahan; games committee, Messrs J • Jobson and M. L. Holden; ground committee. Messrs R. Sherratt and T. Sherratt. Thirty-three new honorary memtters were admitted to the Club. It was reported that the grounds were practically ready for play, and accordingly the. Club decided to open the season by a series of matches on Ft day, October 26, on which day it was hoped a good crowd should be attracted. . „ A vote of thanks was accorded tne Press for the assistance given to the tournaments promoted by the Club. In view of the decision to send 1 two team s from Poverty Bay to participate in the New Zealand polo championships in the coming season, members discussed the advisability of appointing a selection committee, Mr Murphy commenting upon tne necessity of selecting A and B teams as' soon as possible in the coming season. . . .
