The death ; occurred at - Parkes, N.S.W., yesterday, ’of Air- Avilliam Tanks, aged 108 years.—A.P.A. Dr. Nina Howard has been appointed senior house surgeon at Cook Hospital. General Sir Charles Alonfo has retired, having reached the age limit.— Aust. Press Assu. . Mr. Thos. Corson was warmly welcomed back to his seat at tlTe Chamber of Commerce table yesterday-, after four months’ absence through illness. Mr. AY. H. Irvine was appointed l.v the Gisborne Chamber ot Commerce yesterday as their representative to the Associated Chambers’"conference in A\ T ellington. ■ Air. Geo. Crawshaw has been appointed the Poverty Bay delegate to the general conference of representatives of Real Estate Institutes, to be hol'd at Wanganui on October 3 and 4. Miss Eleanor AVinter has been added to the probationer staff of Cook Hospital. Sister Alorton is on annual leave, and is being relieved by Sister Gambriil. Nurse Kirkpatrick is ai»o on .annual leave. Dr. R. Shaw, of the Health Department’s medical staff,; who has heen conducting investigations into goitre among school children in Gishorne, left yesterday morning on his return to AVellington. In recognition of his services in the interests of rifle shooting generally nnd to the Gisborne Defence "Rifle Club in particular; the club, at the annual meeting last night, conferred the honor of life membership upon , Mr. AV. J. Wheeler. The death occurred at Hamilton yesterday of Airs Eliza Harrison, aged 84 years, relict of Air. Joseph Harrison, a Crimean AVar veteran. The deceased was born in London and came to New Zealand 65 years ago. She leaves five married daughters, 21 grandchildren, and 29 great, grandchildren.—" Press Assn.
