OLYMPIC COUNCIL
MEETING OF THE LOCAL • BRANCH. POSITION AS TO THE APPEAL. FULL QUOTA EXPECTED TO BE RAISED. There were present at a meeting of the local branch of the Olympic Council last night Mr'. H. E. Forster (in the chair) and Messrs. P. Fulton, B. H. Aislabie; A: Cassin, G. Jones and the honorary organiser. 1 It was reported that word had been received from Wellington that the; council required all moneys in hand, to be forwarded by the 21st inst. Although the Poverty Bay branch had expected to. raise £4CO by tho .present date, it had not yet been as successful as- it had hoped to be. It would forward £122, by to-niglit’s mad, and the honorary organiser l had been asked to call in all outstanding lists. Wellington had been advised that the balance found,to be in hand Would be forwarded next .week. In addition .all the sports bodies in the district were expected to contribute to the fund. Iff -the circumstances, it was felt that Gisborne, would be able to provide its. full quota. Tho latest advices to hand were to the effect that the rowing “eight” could not be sent. In ; order, to strengthen the. team, 'however, it had. been decided also to send;- ; the,boxer Cleverley and another swinir., mer, Moorhouse. Mr. Hi. Amos, of Wellington, would be going as manager o? the team and Mrs. Amos as chaperone at her own expense. Previously, it had not been stated that no maniirer. would 'be .sent with the team; but Everybody realised the need for such an appointment so that the training of . the team en route to England , could be supervised. Dr. Porritt, who was one ot the Dominion’s representatives at the last Olvmpic Games; would captain the team. It was very necessary that members of the team should be fit and ,well on its arrival at Home.
