Tho Governor-General, in addressing tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce at a luncheon to-day on the subject- of liia travels in New Zealand and his impressions on the general progress of tlie Dominion, said ' the prosperity of a country depended on the development and expansion of its export industry and on the development of it's home - markets. There should be no interference, however, well meant and 'however fruitful of immediate benefits, witn tlie normal workings of the ordinary economic, laws. “You cannot have any great increase in home markets and industry unless you have a sufficiently large population,- and that leads one to the thorny -subject ot immigration,” added Sir Charles. “You must remember--that immigrants are not people who take bread out of the mouths of other’ people. If they are the right soit of immigrants) and can be employed in production they have a purchasing' power which assists industry.’
