YEAR’S DEBIT IN AVELLINGTON TOTALS £13,690 - nm PROFIT ON TRAMS .AND . lighting (Pres# Association-* WELLINGTON, April 19. AVeltington has had a satisfactory financial year so far as tramwaysand electric lighting are concerned. The surplus on the _ brauiAvay s is £10,475, and on electric lighting almost £51,000. The tramway profits are discounted considerably by loss es oris the operation of buses. The total expenditure on tramways was £425,750. The passengers carried totalled 45,413,127, and the tram miles run 4,164,827. The passengers carried represents one and a half million increase over 1920-27-The. figures for the bus .operations which run counter to- the tramivays, are interesting. The - .revenue was £20,396, and the traffic expenses were £11,713, general expenses £I4OB, repairs and maintenance £8327, pOAver expenses £4848, depreciation of buses £7796, total operating expenses £34,092. leaving a debit 'balance of £13,00*, The■ PaTOgers carried totalled 1.419,214, com fared with 1,707,731 for 1926-27.
