“CEASE FIRE!”

HISTORIC MESSAGES AT ARMISTICE. ORDERS TO NEW ZEALANDERS ORIGINALS OFFERED TO AUCKLAND AVAR MUSEUM. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, April 19. Two original messages containing instructions to cease hostilities, received at the headquarters of the New Zealand Division in Trance on the morning of November 11, 1918, are to be offered to the Auckland \A r ar Memorial Museum. Tlie first order to “Cease Eire!” was received at Divisional Headquarters at 8.25 a.m. from the headquarters of the Fourth Army Corps, and was taken down by Sapper Amos. A second message was then transmitted by Sapper Cliffe to the various brigades .of the Division. A few days utter (the Armistice, a signal master-sergeant in the signal office at Headquarters of the New Zealand Division was instructed to destroy certain files of routine messages. He first, however, perused the files to see if they contained any messages of importance, and found the two rather insignificant slips of colored paper blearing' instructions for the division to cease activities. Those he kept and brought back to New Zealand. The sergeant, who wishes to remain anonymous, recently discovered the slips and made known their existence to Major AV. F. Stillwell, ex-officer of the Divisional Signal Company, and on the latter’s suggestion agreed that- they be offered to the museum. ,
