.MEETING OF THE BOARD The Cook County Council’s monthly meeting was held yesterday. The chairman. Mr W. G. Sherratt, presided over the following members: Mrs A. Scott, and Messrs D. W. Coleman AI. T. Trafford, J. E, Benson, C. i-J. Bridge, C. G. Bayliss. H. Kenwpy, G. B. Oman, H. .J. F. Tomhloson and AT. IV. Craig.

The Hospital Boards Association re commended that hoards sending sisters from their institutions to undergo the post graduate course of training should make them a grant of £BO, the nurse to enter into a. bond of n similar amount to remain in the board’s service for two years after completion of the course.—-The hoard decided to affirm the principle. The -district nurses’ report stated: Nurse E. Pritchard. Mntawai. at. tended and advised 42 cases during the month ■ Nurse it. Turner, Tibia raka. attended and advised 34 rases (luring the month and visited five Maori pahs.

The custodian of the Memorial Home reported there acre now forty men and eight women in the institution. Vegetables to the value of £'S Ms had been' supplied to the Hospital this month. Gifts had been donated, to the Home during the month, from Mrs Cranny, Canon Parke, St. David’s P.C. Ladies’ Guild. Wellington Bible and Tract Depot, anonymous. Visits from the Depot, anonymous. Visits from the Endeavour Societies.' were paid to the inmates, much to their appreciation.

The financial statement of the hospital farm’s operations during March showed that the receipts totalled £ I.SI Lis lUd and the expenditure amounted to £77 19.’. J.ld, the excess of receipts over expenditure, being £lO3 14s lid.

In the quarterly report on the. farm for the neoiod ended March 31, the manager (Mr A. 11. Marsh), stated: “With the good rains after the dry spell the farm is looking well. The cows for winter supply are com ing in well and with the abundance of feed, milk and cream are well assured. Surplus cream is still being sent to the factory. The pigs contimute do well and are a good side-line. Twelve acres ot oats have been planted for green feed. After six months’ service the electrical milking plant is working well and proves most economical. Seasonal work is well advanced.’ . The supervising engineer in his report stated that the new electric installation in the landrv had reduced the working costs by £260 a year, compared with generating the board’s own supply, and the saving in running costs will pay for the installation in seven months.
