FTA r E DAYS’ A T ISIT TO GISBORNE
ROUND OF ENTERTAINMENT
H.M.S. Veronica left Nelson, at 0 a,.m. yesterday for Gisborne, and is due to arrive in the roadstead at.lt a.m. on Thursday. She will remain in port until April 24. _ A programme of entertainment or the warship’s officers and crew drafted by the reception committee was presented to the Borough Council last night. At 11 a.m. on. Thursday, the Mayor (Mr D. W. Coleman), the chairman of the Harbor Board (Mr 4V. G. Sherratt), and a representative from the Navy League will pay a formal visit of welcome to the ship. In the afternoon matches have been arranged between the ship’s company and local clubs for hockey and soccer, if the ship has teams available. For Friday afternoon the Waikaliae Beach Society extend an invitation for the men to use their tennis courts and bathing sheds. 'On Saturday afternoon there will be hockey and soccer matches similar to- Thursday. On Sunday afternoon the visitors will be taken ior a) motor drive in the country, starting from landing opposite Harbor Board office at 2.30 p.m... and on Monday afternoon the complement will be taken for another run in the country similar to Sunday. The management of the Opera House extends an invitation to the men to attend a screening of “The Beloved Rogue” on Thursday evening, whilst the managers of the Palace and Majestic theatres forward an invitation for the men to at-> tend the pictures on Friday, and Monday evenings.
