It is estimated that hundreds ol Chinese were killed when a refugee train from Pukow, en route to Tientsin, collided with an empty military train on a bridge over the Fai river, north of Pengpu. Several carnages plunged 50ft into the river. Refugees o', trilowed the roofs of the carriages. Scores were killed outright, and the remainder drowned. The impact was terrific, «very carriage being derailed.
