WAR IN AUCKLAND DISTRICT. SIXTY-EIGHT THOUSAND BIRDS KILLED IN THREE YEARS, (Special To The Times). ' AUCKLAND. April 16.. '•\Y'u are doing a very wise thing 111 voting, a. sum of money for the destruction of. these birds,” said Mr. C. A. Whitney, retiring president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, in referring to the slaughter of hawks. He mentioned that approximately 68,000 of the pests -had been extermm ated during the last three years. The sum of £1,200 liad been expended m the purchase of the feet of the birds, and ho urged all farmers and sportsmen to make war against them. Mr. Whitney also expressed hope that the incoming council would take steps to exterminate • stoats ' and ferrets. • .1 ■>
