RETIREMENT OF GENERAL RICHARDSON. (Special to the. Times.) AUCKLAND, Feb. H. A. fact not generally known is that the period for WJiicli Major-General Sir George Richardson was appointed Administrator ol Western Samoa will expire in May. it is understood that lie will return to New Zealand a tew months later. General Richardson was appointed Administrator in 1923 for three years, and towards the end of that term, yielded to the wishes of the Government and to the representations by the natives of Samoa expressed by their iaipules, that he should remain in office lor a further two years. That he d.d so reluctantly is evident from ail observation by liis Excellency the Governor-General Sir Charles Eergusson, in an address to tho Auckland Rotary Club on November 20, 1923, which he said that, much against the gram, “General Richardson has agreed to stay for a further term, although his heart was with his family in New Zealand.” General Richardson visited New Zealand at the end of 1925 to confer with the Government, and remained for several necks. His knighthood was conferred since he went to Samoa.
