South African Veterans.

A SUCCESSFUL RE-UNION. One of the most successful and enthusiastic re-umons of the South African Veterans’ Association was held in Liberty Hall on Saturday evening. Everything went witli n swing, helped, no doubt by the presence of a party of naval ratings from H.M.S. Diomede. There were also present ‘‘Jerry” Matangi and Tom Bartlett, represeting the Maori war veterans, whose presence aroused the curiosity and interest of the naval men. Both spoke in the Native tongue, and were ably interpreted by Mr. J. B. Poynter. Veteran G. Crawshaw, as chairman, opened the proceedings with the Loval toast, alter which he proposed the toasts of “The Navy, Army ana Air Forces,” replied to by C.P.'O. T. F origan, Cliief Yeoman of Signals F. Bunco, and Chief Electrician F. Carter and F. Pilgrem for the Army, uther toasts honored were: “The R.S.A.” by Veteran J. Harvey, responded to by Lieut.-Col. Gambiill; “Absent Comrades,” by \ eteran J. Ivenwiek. honored by standing m silence; “South African Veterans,' Uv Lieut.-Col. Gambrill, to which Veteran Dr. Bowie replied, in which he related the humorous aspect ot his experiences in the Boer War. Tile chairman also proposed the toast o: the “Hon. Secretary,” which was received with musical honors, Mr. J. Scott briefly responding. Veteran Crawshaw presided at the piano, and songs were given by :Messrs. Humbling, McClure, Harre, and Veteran Bougen, and a monologue bv Veteran D. Turbith A feature of the evening was the rendering of the old-time songs and choruses in which all _ hands joined.
