WASHED OUT TO SEA
CHILDREN ON ICE FLOE. BATTLESHIP AND TUGS IN SEARCH.
(Received January 4. 8.30 p.m.) BERLIN, Jan. 3. The tide at Wilhelmshaven dislodged an ice floe in the harbor._ on which seven children were playing. A swift current carried the floe out to sea. and every attempt at rescue so far has failed. The battleship Sell lesion with a number of tugs and blazing searchlights, sailed in pursuit. and portable search lights were mounted at Jade Bay on the coast. The cries of the' children— were heard two hours after the mishap, there now being only faint hopes of rescue.— A. and N.Z.C.A.
RESCUED AFTER FOUR HOURS. (Received January 5, 1 a.m.) BERLIN. Jan. 4. The Wilhelmshaven children were rescued after drifting four hours. — N.Z. and A.P.A. and Sun.
