NEW YORK, Jan. 3. The. list of deaths due to the intense cold of the last lew days throughout the! I nited States so lar as is definitely known, has reached 72, and the total is expected to rise after the establishment of disrupted communications. At- least 150 persons wore injured in railroad wrecks due to the storm, principally about Chicago. Great suffering is felt in the south in cities unequipped to light the unusual eold. Charitable' institutions are taxed throughout the country. The cold is expected to continue for another 24 hours.—A. and N.Z.C.A. .
