KNIGHT REFUSES TO MAKE STATEMENT.

The New Zealand fliers left Point Cook in a Ryan monoplane. It is expected they will land at Sydney, although no official statement was made as to the destination. Considerable secrecy was maintained regarding the objective, and it was at first suggested that the flight was a trial.
Interviewed prior to departure Knight refused to make a state ment.
Under favorable conditions tinmonoplane should reach Sydney in four and a-half hours.—U.P.A.

(Received dannarv 3. 11 p.m.i MELBOURNE. Jan! 3. Mr. Bruce received a cable from the .New Zealand Government, asking that the Knight party be allowed to proceed without responsibility in either Government. Mr. Bruce indicated that the Federal Government still adverted to its view, hut lie had instructed the aviation authorities to render assistance and the weather bureau to stipplv the weather data. —U.P.A.
