Owing to the cold wind and choppy .sea Miss Gleitge. gave up a. mile from Gibraltar. She covered 21 miles in 13 hours. She encountered shifting currents.—Sun.

GIBRALTAR, Jan. 2. Miss Gloitze was in the water for 12 hours,'!, and was a mile from tlnshore when a wind sprang up with a choppy sea and an intensely cold contrary current. The swimmer battled gamely, and wanted to continue but was induced to abandon the attempt. j Crowds on the Spanish and Gibraltar coasts sighted the swimmer, and wore confident that she would achieve success,- and made arrangements for the landing at Tarifa, where a. motor car was waiting to convey her to Gibraltar.

She experienced no difficulty with currents elsewhere in. the straits. She entered the tug, and sailed for Tangier. She announced that she will return to Gibraltar with the intention of immediately swimming the other way.—-A. and N.Z.C.A.
