(Received Jan. 3, 10 p.m.; It is understood in London iliac the Overseas Settlement Committee is considering operating in the construction of a railway from the Southern Cross to Lake Grace lor the purpose of settlement of the wheat areas in Western Australia, but is not comnuteed to the undertaking, pending the receipt of reports from Western Australia. The committee regrets /that Australia lias not sufficiently availed herself of the £34,61)0,- ():)() ’migration development scheme. Western Australia is primarily "responsive. then Victoria, and thirdly Sooth Australia.—U.P.A.
