I. di is announced that (lie Afothodist- Episcopal Church Women’s Home Missionary Society bronchos in Chicago and Poston have cancelled engagements with Miss Maude Roydon to address them on tlie ground that she smokes and advocates companionate marriage. Aliss Roydon arrived recently from an extensive lecture tour to Chicago ladies. It was pointed out “that smoking is not a general practice in this country and is not done at all hy (he women of our churches.”
M iss Roydon replied, “I do not 'arc a button whether I smoke while in America, but certainly 1 do not concede it is a matter of religious ini porta nee.’’ The tour, however, is otherwise popular.
