Earlv in IS9I Te Kooti was anxious to re-visit- Gisborne. The then Native Minister (Hon. AL- Cadman) told, him, however, that whilst he had the same right as anyone else to move about trouble would ensue if he went to Gisborne and he felt it his clutv to prevent am- such trouble. Te Kooti then-said:'“l will now give up all thought of going to Gisborne, out of respect for the Government.”
