VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND UNLIKELY.

AUSTRALIAN PROGRAMME CAN- ' NOT BE CURTAILED.

MELBOURNE, Dee. 30

At a meeting of the Board of Control for international cricket, attention was given correspondence from the Al.aryiebonc Cricket Club and the New Zealand Cricket Council regarding the proposal that the English team should play two matches in New Zealand at the end of the 1928-29 tour. Tiie board decided it could not,'consider any suggestions that would involve a curtailinenl of the Australian programme. No provision is made lor a visit to New Zealand in the itinerary, which shows that the team \V : ‘l (eminence the tour with a match against West Australian colts in Perth on October 13, visit ul| the Stales, and conclude the tour al Berth on Marcli 28. I'lie hoard adhered to the deci-aon to play one test match at Brisbane, taking one away from Sidney, despite New Soufli Wales’ strong protest . In the test matches the six-halt over will be reverted to, Imt in ilie other mail lies Lin- overs will consist of eight halls. The hoard decided that the New Zealand tour will .commence immediately alter the .match between Victoria, and Queensland, which is timed to end not later than February o. V. Richardson was selected cap-tain of the team to tour New Zealand. — LAB. A.

NO SURPRISE AT DECISION NOT TO VISIT N.Z. 1)0 A UNION SHOULD INVITE AN r|U;’ Ai.C.C. TEAM. • AIR D. REESE’S OPT-MON. CHRISTCHURCH, Doc. 39. Commenting on. the decision of the Australian Board of Cricket Control not to include any matches in New Zealand in the itinerary of the Eng-lish-team, which is to visit Australia in die 1928-29 season, Mr 1). Reese, chairman ol tho management committee of flic New Zealand Cricket Ccnneil, in an interview to-day, said: "One can quite appreciate the* decision of the Board ol Control, lor with the development of Queensland into a first-class State, and the steady progress of the game in West Australia, it gives them a more extended programme for English teams than hitherto, and quite naturally, the welfare of their own States must conic first. As this is likely to- be the case in all future tours, it looks as if Now Zealand’s chance of having English teams visiting this country can only be brought about by tly* Council inviting the Alnrylebone Club to send a team direct for a Now Zealand tour.” ‘•The Australian authorities,” added Air Reese, “have always ,taken such a • generous attitude towards New Zealand cricket that it may he assumed they would have complied with, lho Council’s request had it been.at all possible.”—-P.A.
