Some of Herculaneum’s get present more the appearance of the Clydesdale than the thoroughbred, showing that the son of Yattendon and Peeress has thrown to the stout blood of Sir Hercules.
Outsider Causes Surprise. No local horse won the Turanga Stakes between ISB7, when Nora had the best of a grand race, and 1891 when Wakatipu won for Mr. Parsons. Wakatipu had previously got placed in the N.Z. Cup, the Wanganui Cup and other races, hut his chances were not favored in the Stakes as against Ivapo and Pam. The struggle between that pair melted away when Wakatipu shot up from the rear as if the favorites had been anchored.
A Singular Occurrence. Dead heats .were recorded in the Publicans’ Handicap in 1890 and 1891, Truthful and Kupenga getting the stake in the former year and Pouawa and Huerfann in the latter.
