GOD BLESS OUR MAYOR.
None of the pioneers oithis district displayed greater public-spiritedness than the late John Townley, who died at an advanced age beloved of all. For IS Years, he was Mayor of the town and lie held the Chairmanship of the Harbor Board over a reooid period, whilst lid was also head of tho Railway League over a lengthy period.. Ho w-cs also lor many j eais leader of the Eire Brigade.' No institution having the welfare of the district at heart lacked his support. - As showing the high, esteem in which he ■was held the following verses inscribed to him in IS9II may be quoted God Bless our Chief Magistrate, The best man in all the State, God Bless our Mayor. Grant him success in life, Likewise his noble wife. Keep sorrow far away arid strife, God Bless our Mayor. May he prolong" his Years, Dispel all doubts and fears .From cur good Mayor. Mriy his example sway Our youth so light and gay, Anil torn them to God’s own way God Bless our Mayor. -
