... Tho Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier .Club commenced tho track season on tho Reserve last evening, before a large attendance of the public, when a (programme of four events Was contested. The track was in splendid condition, and the performances witnessed augurs well for a successful season.

The five’ competitors were despatched evenly and raced up. the track, in good style, It. , Tier going to the front a few yards,; from the tape to win, by incfies, the others being inches away. > Second Heat: W. McDonald (51yds) .1; F. Bobbie (6yds), 2 ; A.. Thorp. 1,61yd5.), 3. Time, Bsee. Four started in. this heat and'got away nicely. "With a good burst over the last twenty yards W. McDonald went to the front and won by about a, yard, the samo distance separating Mace (Sivds). 2: N. Simon (10yds), second and third.

Ogg kept well to the. front and finished nicely two feet hr front of Mace, who put in a great effort over the last few yards.

Oue Milo Cycle Handicap.—l\ McMahon (55yds.), 1; M; McMahon (100yds-.), 2; F. Pollard (Sovds.), 3. Time,. 2.i0. / Eight cyclists contested this event, and were despatched without any hitch. J. Mercer, trying to make the best of his handicap, set a good pace, tut at the end of the half-mile had been overtaken by’ the McMahon Bros, and Pollard, who were-riding well. At the bell Pollard was leading and made the pace, hot o-vqp.* the next 20) yards, a good finish being witnessed by the McMahon Bros, lighting it out up the straight. P. McMahon winning by a wheel. ' 880 Yards Handicap (flat). —G. Ingram (65yds) 1; W. Hutchinson (s.syds), 2; G. McDonald (scr.), 3. Time, 2.6. - ' An interesting race was witnessed in this event, when a field of .eleven starters competed. P. H. brands (scr.) moved through the field in good stvle followed closely by G. McDonald. At the hell they were close tip to the leaders, but with about- 150 yards to go Ingram went to the front and was challenged by Hutchinson, who finished second a yard behind the winner. • • • 75 Yards Ladies’ Handicap—Miss Bi-ale (9-ivds.), 1; Miss J. Hliisman (7yds). 2 l Miss E. Williamson (11yds) 3. Time, S 4-ssec. _ - The six competitors moved to a good start, Miss Wilson .shewing a good burst oil speed, but uould not quite catch the leaders. Miss Beale made a nice run and finished strongly. winning by about two yards. The remainder finished close together.
