The roll number now stands at 94 adult memtfers-, and 480 members of the schools section. Of the adults, however, several are some, years in arrears, and we shall be glad if these members will forward their subscriptions to the secretary: The balance in hand on June 30 was £2l os. .On October 26 cf last year the .picture “Zeebrugge” was exhibited in Gisborne and this branch arranged for its junior members to be admitted for a. small fee, paying the balance out of its funds. Diomede naid a .visit to Gislbrne, and tho Navy League undertook the duty of entertaining the men. Ready assistance was given by several owners of ears in and around Gisborne, and the men were taken into the country. Refreshments were given them at Patutahi and afternoon tea at Ormond. The annual conference of branches was held on March '3O in Christchurch. As no member of the branch could he found able to go to Christchurch at that time, Mr C. J. Treleaven acted as oui: representative. After detailing the most important remits passed at the conference, the report states that it lias been proposed to ask His Excellency tho Governor-General to accept the office of patron of the Navy League iu New Zealand, and the various branches have teen asked to express their approval. Tho committee of this branch heartily approved of the proposal. • The schools section, with a membership of 483,' has been carried on as> in previous years. Much interest was evinced bv those members who visited H.M.S. Diomede and the picture matinees held on their behalf. Tile Nelson Day Competitions hi essay-writing and drawing were held again this year and some very creditable work was presented. The executive Committee extends its thanks to those teachers of schools whose pupils have once again so enthusiastically rallied to fhe support of the League as in past years.
