Setir.-Sergt. Mac Lean. of IVaihL who has been transferred to the Gisborne police force to fill the vacancy caused hv the promotion of Senr.Sergt. It is announced that the King has approved the appointment of Mr. Ronald McNeill, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, to he Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in the place of Viscount Cecil of Clielwood. who recently resigned*. The elevation of Mr. G. W. Albertson, resident engineer of the Public Works Department in Gisborne for the . past four years, to the rank of district- engineer, will he a matter for personal congratulations to a Government officer, who by his efficiency and courtesy, has established' his popularity with local bodies and other organisations with whom he has come into contact, and is a recognition of his services that will he generally acclaimed in the district. There was a very large gathering of the bench and bar of the Supreme Court at Auckland yesterday to bid farewell to Mr. Justice Stringer on his impending retirement from the bench. Mr J. B. Johnstone,, president of the Auckland'Law Society, said they had assembled ,to pay tribute ' to'the .valuable services rendered to the community by Mr. Justice Stringer in. the faithful discharge of the duties of his high-office, by which he had: gained the confidence'and respect of both the legal profession and the public.
