(Received Oct. 19. 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 19. '' Tho fire in the Wateriugbury Hall countryi mansion near . Maidstone, was discovered by a, passerby, nlio saw the flames. Thy house was in darkness and everybody in bed. The household were aroused by stones being-'tliicwn at the windows. The housemaid telephoned the., fire brigade who arrived in a quarter, of an nour, but the flames then had'such a hold that there was little hope of saving thfi house or the inmates. Three servants' made adventurous escapes from, bedroom windows, but there was -no hope from the beginning for tlie family, Alajor Bazlby White, D. 5.0., aged 41. years, Iris wife and a child aged four, and a nurse, 55 years of ago. They slept in another wing of the house, which was practically burned down when the brigade arrived. Firemen policemen and villagers worked all night and only recovered the bodies in tho morning.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
