TEN SHOT DEAD
FARMER AT BAY. THEN COMMITS SUICIDE. CAPETOWN. May 6. Nino people were shot dead . and several wounded iff an attempt i o arrest a farmer named Swart at Charlestown, on the Transvaal-Natal border. Swart was wanted on a serious charge. He vfused to surrender and opened fire on the police posse sent to arrest him. The killed consisted of the captain and three police constables, two farm managers, a woman, and Swart's wile. Swart then committed suicide. —Sun. (Received May 8, 5.5 p.m.) CAPETOWN. May 7. The police are suspicious that Swartcould not have done all the shooting.
