MEMORIAL TO “RIGHTEOUS” REBELS.
The Rector of Merton, Norfolk, has supported an appeal “to all lovers of justice and righteousness to raise a rnemoriai to the brothers Dobeit and William Ivett, who led the Norfolk Peasant Rebellion of 1549. ; Robert was a tanner and William a butcher, of Wyiiiondliam, Norfolk. Beth had prospered when they threw in their lot with the peasants when they rebelled against the landlords enclosure of common lands. Robert Kett, with 20.000 men, marched on Norwich and for a time had the city at his mercy, but in the end was defeated the Earl of Warwick. Subsequently Robert Kett was hanged in chains outside Norwich Castle, and William from the tower of the Abbey Church at Wymondham, which lias been suggested as the best place for the proposed memorial.
