MEETING OF OPOTIIvI LODGE 58

(Special to the Times.) OPOTIKI, April 6. r l he ordinary fortnightly meeting ot Opotiki Lodge 58 1.0.0. F. was held last night. There was a large attendance, presided over by Bro. N. G. Caves, N.G. The usual routine business was gone through. The question of a medical fund was discussed and it was decided,,!; o close the present fund, paying half the cash in hand to financial members and the balance to the hall fund. Four new members were initiated by Bro. W. J. Caves, assisted by Bro. J. E. Elliott (conductor), C. G. Hunt (vice-Grand), A. Talbot (Past Grand), and Rev. J. E. Draper (Chaplain). The ceremonv was most impressive. The Lodge is increasing rapidly. There are 'three more candidates for initiation next meeting. The Lodge now numbers 110 financial members. MOTOR REGISTRATIONS.

The registrations of motor cars, loiwies and cycles at Opotiki total 350, about the same number as last year, but 80 to 100 have still to come. BAY OF PLENTY POWER BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Bay oi Plenty Power Board was held to-day. Mr H. It. Hogg presided and others present were: Hon. J. B. Gow and Messrs Fleming McCracken, G. Hewitt, G. S. Moody, F. 'Bjirt, G. Hathaway (secretary), Lancaster (consulting engineer), and Dicker (resident engineer). Mr C. Gordon, a member of the Board, was granted three months’ leave of absence. Letters received included one from Vickennan and Lancaster recommending tho calling or applications for a construction foreman. The Board agreed to the proposal and the salary was fixed at £350. The Waitemata Power Board wrote re a proposal for a general advertising campaign, stating that its Board was in favor of spending one per cent of its revenue in advertising.—The matter was deferred till next meeting. The Minister of Finance wrote stating that the Local Government Loans Board must approve any loans to he raised.—The letter was received. The Chairman’s action in providing cars for the staff was approved. A letter was read from the engineers. re commencing negotiations with Letts Bros for taking over their plant in Opotiki borough.—The Chairman explained that before negotiations could be brought to a head, Letts Bros, must get permission from the Borough Council to sell to the Board. :—lt was resolved to instruct the engineers to open negotiations witn Letts Bros.

The Engineer’s report stated that 350 poles were now ready. Pole-mak-ing depots are to be laid down at Taneatua and Waimana. The new offices in Opotiki are about completed and will he taken possession ol next week. The chairman, Mr McCracken, the secretary, and the engineer are to inspect a quantity of office furniture offered hv the East Coast Freezing Company with power to purchase. *

The engineer reported that Mr F. C. Haines, inspector and canvasser, had. taken no his" duties. The Board went into committee to consider various tenders.
