THE NEW “SUN”

AUCKLAND’S LATEST PAPER. THE STAR’S t GARMENTS. (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, March 23. Auckland’s new evening paper, the Sun, made its first appearance today, with a twenty-four page journal, similar m character" to the Christchurch Sun. The Auckland Star regards the advent- of its competitor as worthy ot editorial notice. The Star, in the course of its article, says that the experience of the newspaper world, both in Britain and America since the war, has been in the direction of amalgamations and the reduction ot the number of daily newspapers. Ot this fact the proprietors of the new journal are fully aware, and they yet remain convinced that there :s loom in this city for two evening panels. They have spared neither expense nor pains in promoting their project-, and to-day sees the fruition cf ihcir labors. If one may Uy :lair Christchurch paper, the Sun vill introduce a style ot iounnlism more closely allied to American th m .-tucklanders are accustomed to. Ln sating this we are net speaking in any, derogatory sense. The methods of display and featuring of news will be more spectacular than wo are familiar with locally, but in the main, the news will be the same. The advent of the new company brings a breeze to the newspaper world of Auckland, and if it fails it is certain that it will not be for the lack of courage or application, but simply because Auckland, as most people believe, is adequately catered for by thft existing newspapers.
