HAWKE CUP. TARANAKI EASILY DEFEAT WAIRARAPA. lIAWERA, Jan. 21. A match for the Hawke Cup took place here to-day in glorious weather, Taranaki being successful in stalling off a challenge from Wairarapa, and winning with the loss of only one wicket in the second innings.

Wairarapa won the toss, and batting first, made a disastrous starfT, six wickets going down for seven runs. Logan and Whitburn made a stand, adding 22 and 13 respectively, the only players to reach double figures. the innings closed with a total of 59. Cole and Clarke were the most successful bowlers, the "former securing five wickets for 13, and the latter four for 25.

Taranaki compiled 116 in the first innings after a bad start (Lay 33, Cole, not out 22, Kingston 18), Beech doing the best with the bail. Wairarapa’s second strike prodijf:ed 70, Renner (26) being the only double figure scorer. Bottrill and Clarke divided the bowling honors.

Taranaki was left with 14 runs to win, which were easily secured, the innings closing with the loss of cno wic-ket.
