SHARP RISE IN FAT SHEEP

AND FAT LAMBS

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. Entries in the sheep section at the Addington market to-day were small, and a sharp rise in values was created. Particularly was this the case in fat sheep'and fat lambs. A heavy entry of beef met with lower values.

Ln st-ore sheep there was a very small entry and a. particularly keen sale took place for ewe hoggets, and a firmer one for ewes and lambs, due to thei good rainfall of the past week. Good aged ewes and lambs made 15s to 16s 6d, fair ewes ancl lambs 13s to 14s Gd, inferior aged ewes and lambs 11s Od to 12s 6d; Come dale ewe hoggets 38s Id, threequarterbred wether hoggets 23s Gel to 24s lid; 2 and 4-tli crossbred wethers 26 sSpring lambs.-—The entry of 140 was too few for butchers.’ requirements, and a jump of 3s to- 5s a head took place. Most of the lamb was over Is a. pound. Prices ranged from 24s to 36,s per head.. A small yarding of fat sheep, most of excellent quality, met with a, spurt in values, the average being from 4s to 5s a, head. Best sectioned to fourth calvers made £7 to £10; others £3 10s to £5 10s; springing heifers £2 10s to £6.

Fat pigs There was a medium entry and a slacker Sale for baconers. Porkers made about-- the same. Choppers realised £4 Is to £7 10s; baconers £3 17s 6d to £4 10s; heavy baepneVs to £6—average price per lb 7-I-d 1 to Sd; porkers 50s to 5s 76d; heavy porkers £3 3s to £3 12s—average price per lb 83d to 9Jcl. Store pigs.—There was a. good sized entry and a, keerv sale with an advance in prices. WESTFIELD YARDS

AUCKLAND, Oct. 13

At the Westfield sale there was an average yarding, beef prices being on a par with last week’s values.' Extra choice cx made 39s per 100 pounds; choice and prime 34s to 86s; just killable 30s to 335; prime 30s to. 2-3 s • prime young cow and heifer beef 32s to 365; just killable 27s to 31s 6d.

Sheep were penned in average numbers. Competition was keen and last week’s prices were fully maintained. No- extra heavy prime wethers w'ere penned. Heavy prime shorn made 2Ss; woolly 37s 6d; melium shorn 23s 6d; woolly 34s- light and unfinished shorn ancl woolly 24s to 28s; heavy prime ewes shorn 22s ; woolly 275; lighter shorn 17s; woolly 235. SALE OF ABERDEEN ANGUS PEDIGREE BILLS

DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 13

. The annual sale of Aberdeen Angus pedigree hulls, under the auspices of the New' Zealand Aberdeen Breeders’ Association, was held yesterday at Dannevirke, and was more successful than was anticipated, considering the recent and present conditions.

Forty-four hulls were offered, the top price at the auction being 100 guineas for Mr Armstrong’s two-year-old Urge 1 , of Akitio, which, was acquired by Mr W. Clark. Gisborne, Other prices at the auction ranged from 20 to 70 guineas. Mr W. A,. McFar lane’s Jupiter, of Waiterenui, was sold privately to Mr F. Armstrong for 150 guineas.—P.A.
